What Exactly is Loi Krathong Festival? (origins)
It is believed to first begin in Sukhothai, (north of Bangkok) one of the most powerful cities in Asia, around 800 years ago. Loy Krathong festival has not clear origins however it is a cultural – quiet celebration for the believers of inner soul and fortune.
The Kratong itself is made from cellulose trunk of a banana tree in order to float. It is decorated with flowers and banana leaves living enough space for the candles and 3 sticks of incense.

Loi Krathong festival idea is to place all your past bad luck or misfortune in the Krathong – “boat” and place it on the water for the flow to take it inside – repelling you from your past sins. If the water flow takes the Krathong inside means good fortune and good luck for the participant else means that you need to try again next year.

Thank you Vasilis. Who made the 1st photo of Loi Krathong light festival? (Monks sitting at the stupa site with lights). I am trying to trace the photographer, but still cannot figure out who made the photo. Everybody is using it without credits.
